Organic Gandrain (गंद्रैण) (Smooth Angelica) is a mountain region herb that has been used in their food recipes of Uttarakhand for decades. It is a dry root that is used for seasoning curry or lentils in the Kumaon and Garhwal regions of Uttarakhand and also used to enhance the taste of food.
It is specially used by the people of Uttarakhand in the preparation of ghat ki dal (horse gram) during the winter season. It is said that the use of Gandrain (Smooth Angelica) changes the taseer (effect) of the food. It is a plant described in Ayurveda and is used in curing various skin diseases, insect bites and also helps in digestion, stimulates appetite, fever and physical disorder.
